Wood Alternatives

There are some things you need to know regarding Wood

Wood Alternatives are getting better...is it?

There are always alternatives,

do you Need it?

Click on Decks or Carpentry for more wood-related options, if you are not that keen on wood alternatives and you like the real thing! I take wood any day instead of the alternatives.

“Wood is patient; wood is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Wood does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.”
— 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (sort of)

Clearly, wood may not be the most durable of materials, but it is definitely the most practical choice. Wood doesn’t get too hot under the sun; wood is not slippery when wet. It can be stained with a variety of colors and finishes. Properly installed, it does not develop drainage problems. And it is extremely beautiful when it is treaded right. Some wood alternatives replicate and build on these qualities, with even stronger abilities to withstand weather, dry rot, and hungry termite jaws.

Obviously, we are not Jesus (who is?) — Jesus is. I’m sure he handled wood well. WWJD if It was good for him, that’s good enough, right? The good carpenter has all the answers.

But, we do have some excellent carpenters on hand to advise you on your wood and wood alternative deck needs.

Don’t bother the good carpenter with wood-related questions… Just give us a call.

Wood Alternatives pros and cons.

Advantages and disadvantages:

First of all, if you decided to use an alternative for wood, keep in mind that you may be using a product that is plastic-based and will create more future problems with non-biodegradable materials in the landfills.

Now that we have this out of the way, there are several wood alternatives when it comes to non-structural materials:

For example, Trex is one of the most common materials used here in the USA.

Trex is a composite material that according to their website does not warp, rot or splinter… What a bunch of croc! They forgot to mention on their website that if you don’t put extra backing on it, it does bow!

Most importantly, It does not need seasonal treatments of painting, it also is not susceptible to termites… an alternative for wood that brings some advantages, but also comes with its disadvantages. Jesus will hate you.

Wood Alternatives cannot fake wood

Certain alternatives cannot fake wood.

Sometimes, the wood alternative is so convincing that you cannot tell it is not wood. For me wood is wood and cannot be replaced.

But, most importantly, a good carpenter knows that you cannot build certain decks with composite materials like Trex.

The deck depicted to the left of this block of text is impossible to be built with Trex because it is built with blocks! No pun intended!

Keep in mind, that Trex needs more support because it is not a structural material. There may be a pill you can buy to give Trex a boost!

But it is your call, there are people that swear over and still buys Iphones in 2020! Jesus will overlook your flaw buying composite decking materials… He will not be your carpenter of choice anyway!
